EcobiaME in Oman!

In July 2024, Barcelo Hotel & Resort purchased a 50kg per day machine, and it has been in use every day since.

So far they have produced over 36 tonne of fertiliser that continues to be used on the vast 260,000 sq meters of land with a huge water front & grassed outdoor function area.

Dr. David Faull, Hotel General Manager, calculated when they first bought the machine, it would pay for itself in 16 months. It did!!
Mission accomplished!

The hotel opened their doors 22nd March 2026 with a Ecobia Bio-digester, fully installed, ready to run, in line with the hotels' sustainability policy.

As a new hotel, the amount of waste waste is rather hard to estimate, so they have rented a medium size industrial unit with the option to "change it out" for a larger model, as the hotel, resort outlets & the fully serviced apartments become occupied & 100% functional.

All the food waste and waste food from the hotel resort will be processed in a central waste area, so there will be very little if any waste going to landfill, significantly reducing the hotel's environmental impact and supporting its long-term sustainability objectives.

Sustainability starts at the grassroots level, and there is no better place to inspire change than with the next generation of hospitality professionals.

Ecobia ME has loaned a food waste recycling machine to the National Hospitality Institute (NHI) in Muscat for use in its teaching kitchen. The initiative gives students hands-on experience with sustainable food waste management, helping them understand the principles of recycling, the circular economy, and how food waste can be managed and repurposed instead of sending to landfill.

As part of our ongoing partnership, the Ecobia ME team regularly visits NHI to deliver sustainability workshops and practical training.
It is rewarding to see many of these students go on to build successful careers with leading hospitality brands such as Barcelo and Tivoli Hotels, taking their knowledge of sustainable practices into the industry.
